Elon Musk, the world's richest person and President Trump's former adviser, said early Wednesday he regretted some of his recent criticisms of the president, in the wake of their last week.

"I regret some of my posts about President @realDonaldTrump last week. They went too far," Musk  on his social media platform X.

Musk called Mr. Trump on Monday, according to a person familiar with the call. It's unclear how the call went.

Vice President VD Vance and White House chief of staff Susie Wiles spoke with Musk on a call Friday, and a source close to the vice president confirmed to TheNews that Vance urged Musk to repair his relationship with Trump. 

Their blistering break-up — largely carried out on social media before a riveted public on Thursday, June 5 — was ignited by Musk's harsh criticism of Mr. Trump's so-called "big, beautiful" spending bill currently before Congress.

The president told  in a phone interview Saturday that he has no desire to rebuild his relationship with Musk, but the White House has sought to cool tension between the president and the technology billionaire. 

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Wednesday that Mr. Trump was "appreciative" of the public apology from Musk.
